Lead Poisoning Case Management:
Training for Public Health Practitioners
The National Center for Healthy Housing is working with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention's (CDC) Childhood Lead Poisoning Prevention Branch to train state and local program childhood lead poisoning prevention program managers, supervisors, and case managers on CDC's 2002 case management recommendations. NCHH will develop a one-day training program to (1) review the 2002 recommendations; and (2) help local and state program staff plan how to implement changes in their existing programs consistent with the new recommendations. Training will be delivered to approximately 300 people at eight training sites from June to October 2003. A summary evaluation of problems identified by programs during the training will assist CDC in planning for revisions to the recommendations or further assistance to programs.
The objectives of the training are:
The training will include topics such as: Developmental assessment and interventions; educational interventions; assessment and remediation of lead exposure; medical assessment and interventions for children with confirmed elevated blood lead levels; and nutritional assessment and interventions.
